Moomins Alphabet

Front

This post by Phillip (the USA) made me click on the link about the alphabet stamps and give a try to the free colouring page.

I printed it on not so a thick paper, so I am glad it made it through the postal machines!

Sunday Stamps | Cartoons & Characters

Some famous characters from Japan:

Doraemon in the Bamboo Thicket
20 May 2020

Magikarp, a Pokémon species
7 July 2021

I think the Japanese really love comics and cartoon stamps. They issue a lot, even from foreign illustrators and characters:
Girl Playing Harp, a Dick Bruna design
21 July 2000

Mymble, a Tove Jansson character
1 August 2018

I have received also Moomin stamps from Finland, like this*:
6 May 2009

And now, let's see a couple of funny British cartoons:
4:55 P.M., by Charles Barsotti
The cheque in the post
, by Jack Ziegler
26 February 1996

Go to Sunday Stamps to see more cartoons and illustrations on stamps!

All About Trees

I sent this envelope to Heleen (the Netherlands), containing a letter about trees (among other matters). It was made out of a page of a calendar, and shows an old olive tree.

This was Heleen's reply:

I cannot decide if I love more the tree stamps or Heleen's drawing...

... or the trees inside!

I Just Wrote to Say Hello

Postcard sent by Teemu (Finland), through the Postcrossing site.

(Actually, this stamp arrived on the back of a different postcard. But I think if fits here!)

Mini-Mini Meeting

How many people do you need to call it meeting? I received this lovely postcard from a two-people meeting in the Netherlands!

I got also this postcard from a more crowded meeting in Tampere (Finland), to celebrate the 15 years of Postcrossing.

HitM | 3D Home

Inside this recycled paper bag, Micu (Hungary) sent a quite original three-dimensional house for the project Houses in the Mail. I don't know how to take nice pictures of this dream house, made of new and repurposed materials. So I will show you how it look closed...

And how to open it...

And the whole house (If I mount it, there is a room I can't see!)

And now, if you feel curious... Come inside!

Some Cartoons on Stamps

Today's Sunday Stamps - II: Cartoon characters. I thought I had uploaded all my stamps about this theme to the blog. But after a closer look...

Two more Donald (and friends) stamps, from the Netherlands. I do not know the year of issue.

Also from the Netherlands:

Jan, Jans en de Kinderen (or Jack, Jacky and the Juniors) is a Dutch comic strip by Jan Kruis, starting in the seventies. This stamp was issued on 6 October 1998 (both in normal and fluorescent paper, I have read - ?). I love the theme of the stamp: A reminder not to forget to use a stamp!

Suske en Wiske (or Spike and Suzy,Willy and Wanda, Bob et Bobette...) is a Belgian comics series created by the comics author Willy Vandersteen. The stamp was issued on 18 March 1997, in the Netherlands. Did you know these characters?

From the USA, two vintage comics but still ongoing: Archie (first appeared in 1941) and Dennis the Menace (since 1951). These stamps were issued in 2010, along with other three comic characters: Garfield, Calvin und Hobbes and Beetle Bailey.

And, from Finland, I have received some Moomins, the well-known characters by illustrator and writer Tove Jansson. However I had not heart about them before I joined Postcrossing. One more thing I have learned thanks to stamps! The stamps below were issued in different years. I think Finland issues regularly stamps with Moomins!
