#AtoZChallenge | I is for Illustrators

It had been a long time since I had added a Smurf to the album! This Schtrompfvache or Smurf cow, drawn by the French cartoonist Michel Cambon, was sent by Heleen (the Netherlands).

On the envelope, and inside, more Smurfs appeared, along with some Dick Bruna's (recently passed away) stamps.

Smurfs (on comics, not on TV) were my heroes as a child. But I did not met Miffy until adulthood. Have you discovered any children character as an adult? Which one was your favourite in your childhood?

  1. Eva, what a charming postcard! I'd be tempted never to send these out but to hoard them.

  3. Such a sweet post. Thank you.
My childhood favourites were characters from a Hindi comic series (Chacha Chawdhary) and Tin Tin.
I like your children's jigsaw idea:) I also like this: "the weak sunlight dipped below the horizon until it became black." Am intrigued to see how all this ends up.

  5. I love how Bruna's zebra is on a very dark background - at first I thought it was black, leaving just the white stripes.

Things I learned as an adult - Mole is really Polish, and The Magic Roundabout is actually French!

Mail art from A to Z.

    1. Little Mole is Czech, isn't he?! I loved to see his animation movies as a child, and some years ago the serie was issued on dvd. Still great!

The Magic Roundabout is new to me, I should discover it :-)

  6. I've always been envious of illustrators' ability to draw. My childhood hero was Just William but I only read about him in books. My favourite illustrator has to be Hablot Browne, Dicken's illustrator PHiz.

    1. The names are new to me. But I have seen the works of all these without knowing the names. And yes: I'm also very jealous.

  13. My favorite as a child was The Cat in the Hat.

  14. I discovered The Lorax sone years ago (as a grown-up :-) ) although I knew the Cat in the Hat in earlier years.

I loved to play with the small Smurf puppets, but the Smurf comics - though I read and loved it - I didn't read as much as I did read Suske en Wiske (Bob and Bobette), and of course Uderzo/Morris/Goscinny's comics.

    1. I think that still I know the Smurfs comics by heart. And also other comics not intended to children: Mafalda.

(I've seen you got the Quino characters stamp! I didn't buy this one because it is not very useful for sending letters, with the value of 3€)

  18. Speaking of illustrators, I've really been enjoying the A-Z posts from: https://what-is-hoped-for.com (drawing a different character each day.)

For me, one of my favourite childhood shows was My Little Pony, so I get to see them everywhere again now hehe!
