Naked Mail

Mail sent by Mary England (taken from here).

I did not know that sending items without any wrapping has a name: naked mail. Even if I have sent and received some naked items. This bottle gives me some ideas. But indeed, I do not dare to sent naked objects from Morocco.

By the way, trying to finding out about this kind of mail, I also learn that it is referred by postal office workers as TTPO which stands for 'Torture the post office'.

  1. Funny, in Dutch we call a snail without a shell a 'naaktslak' = 'naked snail' (babosa, llimac, in English 'slug'; btw, funny word, 'slug', as the English word 'slug' almost is pronounced as the Dutch word for snail: 'slak').

So 'naked mail' I immediately understand: naked snail mail :-)

I think you already might know other senders of naked mail?! Among them one of the pioneers, W. Reginald Bray, also known as 'the Englishman who posted himself'. Which he indeed did, more than 100 years ago!.. Wouldn't try it myself in these days anymore (regarding my weight, I would need too many stamps..).
You can see him being delivered on one of the pictures on http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.tingey/book/photos.htm :-)
